SATYANARAYAN PUJA VIDHI

Step 1: Purify the Space Clean the area where the puja will be performed. Sprinkle water mixed with Ganga Jal to purify the space and create a sacred atmosphere.

Step 2: Decorate the Puja Area Set up a clean and decorated altar with a red or yellow cloth. Place a Kalash filled with water, mango leaves, and a coconut. Light lamps and decorate the area with flowers and rangoli to create an inviting space for the puja.

Step 3: Place the Idol or Picture Position a picture or idol of Lord Satyanarayan at the centre of the altar. Ensure it faces east or north. Arrange other items like sacred books, diyas, and offerings around the idol.

Step 4: Prepare the Offerings Arrange a plate with prasad, fruits, flowers, incense sticks, and other puja items. The prasad usually includes a sweet dish like Sooji Halwa or Panchamrit (a mix of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar).

Step 5: Sankalp (Making a Vow) Take water in your right hand, chant the Sankalp mantra, and make a promise to perform the puja with dedication. The Sankalp reflects your intent and devotion.

Step 6: Invocation (Prana Pratishtha) Invoke Lord Satyanarayan by chanting his mantras and offering water, flowers, and sandalwood paste. This step invites his divine presence into the idol or picture.

Step 7: Shodashopachara Puja Perform the 16 rituals of worship, starting with offering a seat, washing the idol’s feet, offering flowers, lighting incense, and making food offerings. Chant the Satyanarayan Katha (story) during the puja to honour the Lord and seek his blessings.

Step 8: Aarti (Devotional Song) Light a diya and perform the Aarti, moving it in a circular motion around the idol. Chant the Satyanarayan Aarti or other devotional songs. This step symbolizes reverence and devotion.

Step 9: Pradakshina (Circumambulation) Walk around the altar or idol three times in a clockwise direction as a mark of respect and devotion.

Step 10: Distribute Prasadam Offer the prasad to Lord Satyanarayan and then distribute it among family and friends. Sharing the blessed food spreads positivity and good fortune.
