Situated in Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India, lies the Chandrabadni Siddha Peeth, a sacred place dedicated to Goddess Shakti. This temple, perched atop Chandrakut mountain at over 7,000 feet, is one of 11 Siddha Peeths in Uttarakhand and a pilgrimage site for devotees seeking blessings.
Legend says that this temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya. Ancient texts like the Mahabharata mention this Peeth, adding to its spiritual significance. The story goes back to Sati, the consort of Lord Shiva. When her father disrespected Shiva, Sati sacrificed herself. Heartbroken Shiva carried her body, and here, at Chandrabadni, performed the Tandava, a cosmic dance of destruction and renewal. This is believed to be where Sati's torso fell, leading to the establishment of the Siddha Peeth.
The temple has transformed over time. Originally a small stone structure, it now reflects North Indian architectural influences. As you climb the stairs guarded by lion statues, the intricate carvings and sculptures on the sanctum sanctorum, built in the Garhwali style, will leave you awestruck. Inside, you'll find statues of various deities, including Shiva, Ganesha, and Hanuman, adding to the temple's charm. Chandrabadni offers a captivating blend of history, spirituality, and architectural beauty.
Chandrabadni is a beacon of devotion for Shakti worshippers. Unlike other temples, there's no idol – devotees revere a Sri Yantra carved on a stone. The temple pulsates with life throughout the year, with devotees attending festivals and fairs. The aarti, a prayer ceremony, is a unique experience accompanied by rhythmic drums and traditional music. A grand fair in April draws crowds eager to seek blessings and immerse themselves in the temple's vibrant atmosphere.
Devotees offer Chunri, fruits, coconuts, incense sticks, etc., to Goddess Chandrabadni. It is believed that the Goddess fulfills the wishes of the devotees. Many people also come to the temple as a vow.
